July 2013 Part Two

Well, the second half of July flew by just like the first half.

We spent a wonderful day on the water with Toni and Russ who brought us SO MANY delicious goodies and treated us to a great lunch at the Lobster House in City Island. It was so nice to see them both and spend time on this beautiful day. We had perfect timing in both directions while passing through Hell’s Gate on the East River and with perfect wind we had an excellent sail in the sound.

Our next outing was with the Wilson/Mahoney family gathering. Not all were able to make it but those who did enjoyed a long sail up the Hudson. We made it as far as Sing Sing before we turned to head back…picking up and dropping off no one. Eileen, Joe and Wendy, Maura and Thom were great tour guides along the way. So many beautiful landmarks that we now want to visit on land!

August hit and we’ve been treated to a few tours of New York and some fabulous food. The first was with Wendy and Joe who showed us some neat neighborhood gardens and several outdoor market places. We had a tour of Chinatown (where you can get blueberries for $1 a pint!) and Little Italy, ate at a great Italian Restaurant where the owner sang New York New York out in the street. Dessert and espresso was at a corner bakery followed by hot dogs and beer at Katz, (where Harry Met Sally) and a few samplings of smoked salmon, beet salad and a cream cheese roe spread at the famous Russ and Daughters Deli. What an education just riding the city busses and walking around. It’s amazing how much you can see. Thank you Joe and Wendy for such a special experience.

Our second day of being spoiled was by Eileen who knew more perfect spots to make our day an unforgettable experience. We started out at her apartment with a breathtaking view of the East River. It would be great to have a picture of Steppin Up from this vantage point. Now we know for sure that she can see us very well whenever we go sailing by. We walked through “Eataly”…what a feast for the eyes and the palette. We had a quick “snack” at the microbrewery on the roof and the threatening weather stayed away the entire day. It was cool and dry, perfect for another full day touring the Big Apple. The Met was next and if I had my way we would still be there. So much to see…I could spend hours just looking through one gallery. Eileen was the perfect guide through this huge museum, making sure we got to see all we wanted to and more. Next stop was dinner at an Italian restaurant of our choice. We chose Antonucci’s since we went to school with a guy of the same name…EXCELLENT CHOICE! The food was AMAZING! (and you all know how fussy I can be) I could write a whole blog about what we ate but I’m trying to entertain not torture our readers 🙂 Thank you Eileen for EVERYTHING!

A day off the boat to sing Happy Birthday to my dear sweet sister Colleen…We spent the overnight with Debbie which was perfect for me for so many reasons. I need to see them both a few more times, before we have to head back south.

Time is running out for our first summer in the NY/NJ area but it’s looking good for next summer. We know a lot more and have made some good contacts. We’ve confirmed three week long charters for our 2013-2014 season in St Thomas…now all we need are 15 more!

On a final note…we met a very nice couple at the Liberty Landing Marina. They saw Belhaven NC on our boat and stopped by to say they too were from Belhaven. Not only are they from Belhaven but they are from Bailey Point our development and have a lot around the corner from us! Our docks are about 200 yards apart form one another…the world keeps getting smaller… so why isn’t St Thomas getting any closer???
